Mayor

Mayor Pastor Nathaniel Byrd is a devoted public servant, faith leader, veteran, and lifelong champion for the Adamsville community. He has been happily married to his wife, Vernell E. Byrd, for 37 years, and together they are blessed with five children—Charles, Byron, Lisheenia, Renay, and Jade, one cherished niece, two goddaughters, and seven grandchildren.

Mayor Byrd proudly served 21 years of active duty in the United States Army, retiring in 2004 as a First Sergeant (1SG). His distinguished military career included advanced leadership training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, the Senior Leadership Course at Fort Bliss, Texas, and service as a College Instructor for Military Science at Fort Monroe, Virginia. His leadership experience continues to guide his work in both ministry and government.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in General and Financial Management from Touro University International, and an Associate Degree in Heating and Air Conditioning from Bevill State Community College. He also completed Old and New Testament Studies, further preparing him for ministry.

In 1999, under the leadership of Pastor A. Hennigan in Hinesville, Georgia, Pastor Byrd
answered his call to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Alongside his wife, he has served in
ministry across Georgia, South Carolina, and South Korea, and has been deeply involved in
prison ministry since 1997 in multiple states. In 2004, they founded House of Prayer Outreach
Faith Church (H.O.P.O.F.), which was incorporated in 2004 and granted 501(c)(3) status in
2005. The church continues to serve Adamsville and surrounding communities through outreach
and faith-based programs.

A lifelong servant leader, Mayor Byrd is also a Chaplain with the American Legion in Graysville,
Alabama, where he served for six years, and an entrepreneur, owning Truth A.C. Heating &
Cooling. As a City Councilman for District 2, elected in 2020, he established the District 2 Town
Hall Meetings, creating a direct line of communication between citizens and local government.

Having grown up in the Adamsville area, Mayor Byrd considers it a blessing to return home to
serve both spiritually and civically. In 2025, he was elected Mayor of the City of Adamsville,
continuing his lifelong mission of leadership, integrity, service, and community empowerment.

Through every season of life—as a soldier, pastor, business owner, councilman, and now
mayor—Mayor Pastor Nathaniel Byrd remains committed to serving God and the people of
Adamsville with humility, vision, and unwavering dedication.
